Following a week of five matches, the tennis Vikes showed resilience against a mix of tough opponents, finishing with a 2-3 record.

The week opened on Monday, April 13, with a 3-2 victory over Dublin Coffman. The Vikes picked up key singles wins from Arjun S. at second singles, who dominated 6-1, 6-0, and Jackson A. at third singles with a 6-3, 6-3 performance. The second doubles team of Theo C. and Luke P. also contributed, winning 6-4, 6-4 to secure the match. Although first singles and first doubles fell in close contests, the team’s effort earned them the victory.

The Vikes faced rival Bexley on Tuesday, April 14, at the Third Annual Jack Madison Cup, an event established to honor the legacy of Jack Madison, a Bexley native and 2021 Academy graduate who passed away in January 2023. Remembered as a spirited and energetic presence with a contagious enthusiasm, Jack’s impact on both communities was evident during the pre-match ceremony held at Carlin Fields. After winning the Madison Cup last year, the Vikes failed to retain the trophy, falling 1-4 to the Lions. The lone victory came from the second doubles duo of Theo and Luke, who battled through a tight three-set match to win 7-6, 1-6, 6-3. Despite the loss, the event served as a meaningful tribute, bringing both communities together to honor Jack’s legacy.

The team rebounded dominantly on Thursday, April 16, sweeping Buckeye Valley 5-0. Every position delivered wins, highlighted by straight-set shutouts for both second and third singles. The doubles teams were equally commanding, each winning 6-1, 6-0, showcasing the Vikes’ ability to bounce back after a loss.

On Friday, April 17, the Vikes took on Lexington but fell 1-4. The only win came from first doubles, where the duo secured a strong 7-5, 6-2 victory. The singles lineup faced tough competition, with all three matches ending in straight-set losses. Second doubles came close but fell in a tight three-set match (6-4, 3-6, 1-0).

The week concluded on Saturday, April 18, against Hawken, where the Vikes lost 2-3. Both doubles teams earned wins, but the singles lineup failed to secure a point, with all three matches ending in straight sets.

With an updated 4-5 record, the Vikes will travel to Franklin Heights on Tuesday, April 21, and to Olentangy on Wednesday, the 22nd, before returning home to face Grandview on Thursday.
