JAG Hosts First Schoolwide Passover Dinner

Academy families from every division gathered in the Dining Hall’s hearthside for a shared Passover Dinner on Friday, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. Academy’s Jewish Affinity Group (JAG) leaders Billy G., Gabi M., and Sofi A-T. welcomed approximately 65 attendees. Catered by City Barbeque, the menu featured pulled chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, salad, and ice-cream sundaes. Additionally, the tables were set up with matzah and grape juice (served as a non-alcoholic alternative to traditional wine), which was included as part of the seder.

Behind the scenes, the event required weeks of coordination. Organizers worked closely with facilities to arrange the Dining Hall, manage catering logistics, and place orders for decorations and supplies.

“The preparation and setup were both very difficult processes, but seeing the turnout and how many people were enjoying themselves was the most rewarding feeling,” said Sofi. “I feel so grateful to have been able to help create this new tradition.”

The event included a slideshow presentation about the significance of Passover, as well as games for younger children. One attendee, Gaby A., who is not familiar with Jewish traditions, said, “Even if you didn’t grow up celebrating Passover, you could still feel how welcoming it was.”

A sense of accomplishment reflected the energy of the event, which marked a step toward establishing a more connected Jewish community at Academy.
