Afte boys wrestling had its sectional playoff run on Saturday, February 28, at Mechanicsburg, the squad’s 80 points placed Academy 8th out of 13 teams– good enough to clinch a district berth. West Jefferson won the tournament with 177 points.
Freshman Greyson K. placed fourth in the 113-pound weight class and contributed 11 points towards Academy’s total score. Gavin H., another freshman, finished second in the 120 and won 16 points for the Vikes.
Earning 20 points, sophomore Paul A., came in second in the 165-pound weight class. In the 175-pound weight class, Senior Henry S. ended up in fourth, with two wins and two losses and added 14 points to CA’s total.
Sophomore Josh L. earned 12 points, finishing fourth in the 190-class.
Sophomore Devin L. came in fourth in the 215 pound class, adding seven points to the Vikes’s tally. He lost two matches, and had two byes.
Senior Henry S. says. “I think getting to go to districts is well deserved by the whole team, we’ve put in the hours and the sweat and the hard work to get this far. I think we have a good chance of doing well at districts if we put our minds to it”.
The Vikings head to Hobart Arena in Troy on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7 to compete in the southwest District Tournament.
