Girls basketball kicked off its postseason in a district semifinal matchup against Johnstown-Monroe on Tuesday, February 24, with Sydney S. leading the offensive effort towards a 54-48 victory, racking up 16 points and 4 steals. Gia C. followed with 12 points and 6 steals. Katie N. says, “It was a tight game all around, but I think our ability to put up shots put us on top.”
This victory marked the Vikes 23rd consecutive and granted them a spot in district finals against Amanda-Clearcreek on Friday, February 27. Sydney and Gia were, once again, dynamic, earning 9 and 14 points, respectively. Additionally, Sydney dominated defensively, securing five rebounds.
With a 42-32 win, Academy made history by obtaining the district championship title. Caroline M. says, “It was such a good feeling to make an impact with our hard work.”
The girls will play at Mansfield, against an undetermined opponent, on Wednesday, March 4.
