After the Vikings put a beatdown on the Falcons, 52-20, on Tuesday, February 10 (This was no surprise given their opponents have yet to win a game all season.), the boys hosted Bexley on Wednesday, February 11, and dominated throughout, capturing a 68-40 win that allowed the Vikings to place first in the Central Buckeye League with a 13-1 record. The boys are now back-to-back league champions.
On Monday, February 16, the boys basketball team traveled to Bishop Watterson for its first matchup of the week. Both teams came out strong, trading points, but Watterson led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. Then the Vikings bounced back, outscoring the Eagles 12-9, cutting Watterson’s lead to one point. Post halftime, the teams were neck-and-neck in the third quarter before Academy snatched the lead in the fourth, particularly after Jason S. went on an 8-point run. As a result, the Vikes took home a 38-36 win.
The boys were back in action on Wednesday, February 18, as they visited St. Francis DeSales for their final regular-season game. Both teams brought aggression to the match-up, battling back in the fourth and exchanging buckets. Despite trailing for a majority of the game, Academy stole back the lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to capture a 46-44 win.
Academy plays its first tournament game on Saturday, February 28, against Grove City Christian.
