Ms. Conti’s Workshop Gives Students Head Start on Career Readiness

After school on Wednesday, January 21, Ms. Conti hosted the Internships 101 workshop, an event designed to introduce students to the internship application process and workplace skills.

Conti opened the class was students in all grade levels. Each student received a folder containing a resume brainstorming sheet, resume and cover letter templates with examples, and a copy of the slides presented during the session.

We were walked through the fundamentals of building a resume and cover letter and how to prepare for a proper interview, including a guide on etiquette and attire. Conti shared strategies for answering common interview questions and encouraged us to be concise and to use the effective communication skills that employers are looking for. “The workshop made the internship process feel a lot less intimidating, and having resume examples and interview tips helped me understand what employers actually expect,” said Gabi M. .

Conti recommended that students apply to five to ten internships to increase their chances of success and outlined the next steps in the application process.

Applications open Monday, January 26, and close February 16. Interviews will take place from February 23 through March 6, with Academy hosting an in-person interview day on March 5.

Offer day is March 10, so students will have 48 hours to accept an internship if they receive an offer.

Conti will continue to support students through mock interviews and workplace readiness guidance, which students can sign up for through the Internship Google Classroom.

Resume and cover letter editing is also available through an assignment posted in the internship Google Classroom.
