What Is Wrong With Michigan Football?

Michigan football, Coach Sherrone Moore, has been fired after just two seasons with the team after engaging in an affair with his assistant. He was arrested shortly after the firing was announced for allegedly breaking into said assistant’s house and threatening her. It is a bad situation for everyone involved and leads to the question: what is going on with Michigan football?

The program has consistently faced scandals for almost six years now, starting with recruiting issues under Coach Harbaugh in 2020. They then faced cheating allegations that were proven true by the NCAA, though no major punishment ever seemed to come. Since Harbaugh’s hiring, seven of his hires have been arrested, with an additional four banned from coaching in the NCAA. The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced an internal investigation into how so many scandals have occurred in recent years, though many analysts would be shocked if it actually results in any findings. After all, this is the same department that has allowed these operations to occur under its nose and, if the reports are accurate, has known about Moore’s actions for weeks now, but chose to wait until after the Ohio State game and national signing day. A saying has been going around the internet stating. “This is the biggest College Football scandal since the last Michigan scandal”

It is unclear how Michigan will be able to come back from yet another major offense and try to fix its image. For a program that emphasizes a “Michigan Man” who is self-righteous but the standard for how one should act, they sure do tend to mess up a lot. With the timing of this announcement coming after the majority of the coaching carousel has concluded, Michigan is likely not going to have answers in the coaching department for a while. And even when they do, it may be a lackluster hire.
