On October 23, the first-ever co-ed football intramural games began with teams Bbbbbbbbb BRIANNNNNN, Ellie and Abby Rule, No Fly Zone, ROYGBIV pt.2 , Recess Warriors, Stinky Crockpot, The Cranes, The Water Boys ready to compete.
Classmates assembled in teams of seven, drafted playbooks, practiced on Lazarus Courtyard, and even scrimmaged with other teams preparing for the tournament. Organizer, Kendall O., said, “I’ve always wanted to play football, especially with all my best friends, so when classmates recommended starting a friendly tournament where students can compete, I jumped at the idea.”
Game 1.
The match kicked off with Bbb Brian on offense, shooting deep for the endzone. The defense dropped into coverage and denied deep routes.
On a turnover No Fly Zone, led by their freshmen quarterback Harper O., tried for the endzone. Harper found receiver Brandon H., deep for the touchdown and celebrated with fans, but fell short on the extra point, leaving the score 6-0.
In the 4th quarter, Bbb Brian scored with a buzzer beater touchdown as quarterback, Charlie R., connected with Alex P. tallying six on the board and celebrating in the endzone. On the extra point, Parker S. rolled out and secured the pass from Charlie. After the game, Parker said, “We like to have fun on this team.”
The game ended 6-7, locking in the win for Bbb Brian, who will advance to the second round.
Game 2.
The following day, October 24, “ROYGBIV” faced “Ellie and Abby Rule” in a tight game. ROYGBIV led by freshmen quarterback Kevin K. started with a long ball to Ethan P. in the endzone to get the team fired up.
Ellie and Abby Rule did not back down, responding with an immediate touchdown to Avery L, with both teams scoring back-t- back touchdowns.
In the final moments of the game, down by one, ROYGBIV answered with a Hail Mary throw to Henry C.
On the extra point to send it into overtime. Mark M. on Ellie and Abby Rule sacked quarterback Kevin K. ending the game and securing the win, 21-20.
After the game Graham A. (on Ellie and Abby Rule) said, “It was a great game bringing our team closer together. We can’t wait for next week.” This week is packed as the final games of round one commence on Monday, October 27, and Tuesday, October 28.
