Football Takes Down Bishop Ready

(Charlie R. Courtsey/Caflikr)

On Friday, October 17, the football team welcomed Bishop Ready for a gritty CBL matchup.

The Silver Knights kicked the off as the Vikings quickly advanced the ball when Gabe D-R. scored a 15-yd running touchdown on the game’s second play. Both teams bounced back and forth the rest of the quarter, unable to make plays until Academy sealed an 8-0 after capturing a safety in the last minute.

Maroon and Grey dominated in the second quarter with Parker S. immediately scoring a touchdown on a short rush. On defense, Nick J. intercepted the ball, taking it to the end zone for a pick six. Bishop Ready failed to respond, leading to 21-0 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Silver Knights crawled back as their quarterback threw a deep ball to station them at the 1-yd line. On the following play, Ready rushed the ball in for a touchdown, finally getting points on the board. The Vikings failed to capitalize on its possession and were forced to punt the ball back. Bishop Ready regained possession and captured another 7 points on a passing touchdown. The score now displayed 21-13 as the teams headed into the fourth quarter.

It was a scrappy final quarter with both teams exchanging points. The Silver Knights racked up another touchdown, but in the few minutes left, the Vikings prevailed. Breaking through their opponent’s defense, Baron D. ran the ball in for a touchdown before Parker S. sealed the game tallying a two-point conversion, ending in a 29-19 win for Academy and marking its win against Ready since 2021.

Next Friday,

The Vikes welcome Whitehall for their final regular season game on October 24 when Academy receives the Central Buckeye League trophy.
