On Saturday, October 8, the Vikings faced the Johnnies at Johnstown looking for redemption in the first round of tournament play. Earlier in the season, the Vikings fell to the Johnnies 3-1, but that loss came without key players, Brandon H. and Brian A. With both back in the lineup, the boys expected a different outcome.
Energy was intense for both teams, having a win mindset. The Vikings defense stood strong, letting nothing past, along with the offense creating several scoring chances early, but failing to put it in the back of the net. The Johnnies struck first, taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings continued the story of its season, struggling tremendously on offense yet failing to close the gap. Losing 1-0 put an end to the Vikings season.
Although the loss was disappointing, the Vikings showed resilience and growth throughout the season, with young players having to step up and take on big roles with huge shoes to fill from last year’s team. Brandon H. said, “I’m proud of the team and the way we fought until the end. We are a young team so I’m looking forward to next year and hopefully we can improve on working together and winning more games.”
It is important that the boys learn from this year and remember how these losses feel. With the upcoming juniors coming into their final year, it is their job to turn the program around and give fire to its dull program as of now.
