Girls tennis finished its season at OHSAA’s Division II state tournament from Thursday, October 16 – Saturday, October 18. District doubles champions, Gabrielle S. and Ella T., fell in their second round , ending as state runner up, in a loss to Orange.
In individual play on Thursday, October 17, Gabrielle and Ella defeated their first-round opponent from Cincinnati Country Day, 6-1, 6-1 but fell in the next round 6-1, 6-4 to Gates Mills Gilmour Academy–the Division II doubles state championship.
On Saturday, October 18, the girls beat Indian Hill 3-1 for their first match. Ella bested her opponent 6-2, 6-0 in second singles, while both doubles teams claimed victory: Lara W. and Sophie W. 6-1, 6-0 in first doubles, and Ela K. and Zephyr H. 6-2, 6-4 in second doubles. Gabrielle lost 6-1, 6-0 in first singles.
The girls advanced to the state finals match against Orange, following their 3-1 win over Indian Hill. The Vikings lost 0-3, with Gabrielle 6-1, 6-0 in first singles, Iris S. 6-1, 6-0 in third singles, and Lara and Sophie 6-2, 6-3 in first doubles.
The Vikings finished with a 18-3 record and a 2nd place finish in the state.
