Girls golf was crowned the Division II OHSAA State Champions on Monday, October 6, and Tuesday, October 7, at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro. This remarkable victory marks their fourth state title in a row in just their seventh year as a program.
The Vikes played well throughout the first round as they opened up a 10 shot lead on Madeira and fired a team score of 317.
Eva L. not only led the team, but led the entire field with a one under par 71. Nala C. came in with a strong 75, which put her in eighth place overall. Meera S. scored 85, placing her in 25th. Niya C. finished with 87 which put her in 30th, and Claire Z. shot 89 which placed her in 32nd.
The tournament tried to get the second round in, but inclement weather ultimately prevailed, so the second round was cancelled after only Meera S. had teed off. The results reverted back to the day one scores, and the Vikings were crowned as state champs once again. Eva L. was the individual state medalist for the second year in a row and has already etched her name in the history books of Columbus Academy Girls Golf. Eva says, “I’m very proud of the team, and it means a lot to us to have this opportunity and contribute to the success our girls golf program has been seeing recently. I’m honored to have won my second individual title, and I hope we continue to thrive in the future”.
Head coach Maggie Freytag has done a remarkable job in not only starting our girls golf team but proving a platform for her players to succeed. Her leadership has led to four state championships.
Congratulations to all the girls on such an astounding accomplishment.
