Football Dominates on the Road

On Friday, October 10, the football team travelled to Buckeye Valley, inching themselves one step closer to earning the Central Buckeye League title.

The Vikings kicked the ball off to start and the Barons punched it down the field but failed to make it into the end zone and then responded with a field goal. On Academy’s first offensive play, Gabe D.R. ran 60 yards into the end zone to rack up the game’s first touchdown. Buckeye Valley clapped back by scoring a touchdown on the punt return. The Vikings earned back possession but couldn’t infiltrate the ball through the Baron’s defense. As a result, Academy kicked the ball off, and Buckeye Valley snuck in another 7 points on a passing touchdown to end the first quarter 7-17.

Maroon and Grey came out strong in the second quarter outscoring their opponents 22-0. To start, Scott A. scored a 5-yd touchdown and then Charlie R. threw a dime to Julian E. for the 2-point conversion. This brought the score to 15-17. The Barons got the ball back but fell flat to capitalize on their plays. On the other hand, when Academy regained possession, Michael T. zipped a pass to Henry P. on a seam route for a 30-yd touchdown, stopping Buckeye Valley’s offense yet again. To end the half, Parker S. marched the ball into the end zone for a 1-yd rushing touchdown, which gave the Vikings a 29-17 lead going into halftime.

The scoring died down in the third, as quarter Gabe D-R. tallied one touchdown while the Barons earned one off a fumbled snap. Then in the fourth quarter the Vikes blocked a punt for a safety, capturing two more points. The Barons failed to crawl back into the game, thus, resulting in a 38-24 win for Academy.

Looking ahead, Academy will host Bishop Ready on Friday, October 17. If the Vikings win this game, they will be announced Central Buckeye League Champions.
