United CA and the Alumni Board hosted the Alumni Weekend Multicultural Luncheon in the Crane Learning Center on On Saturday, October 4, for alumni, parents, and students to convene in an intergenerational setting. Approximately 55 people attended, showing the their enthusiasm for the new event.
The goal of this initiative was to encourage meaningful connections across generations, with a focus on strengthening ties among current students involved in cultural affinity groups with alumni. Recognizing age gaps can limit these opportunities, the event aimed to engender engagement and connection. This year’s collaboration marked an expansion of previous efforts, held by United CA, which has traditionally hosts a Black Alumni Mosaic and BOS gathering.
Dr. Losambe, Director of Diversity and Community Life, said, “There hasn’t been a lot of opportunities for HOLA, which is our Hispanic association, to connect with our alums and I wanted to bridge that gap intentionally.
Bibibop and Chipotle catered, and conversation cards were placed at each table to initiate conversation. One card asked, “Who do you look up to the most in your life?”
If people want to be there that’s amazing, said Losambe. “If they feel like it’s a space they might rather have at another time we can also play with that as well.”
