On Wednesday, September 24, girls volleyball dominated the Worthington Christian Warriors with a commanding 3-0 sweep. This win not only showcased the Vikes sharp execution but also extended their hot streak to six consecutive matches, ending 3-0 for 18 straight winnings sets.
Kyndal S. stood out, delivering an impressive performance on both sides of the ball. Her consistency along with timely kills from Morgan S. allowed the Vikes to maintain their momentum throughout the match. Their comfortable and controlled play style allowed them to sweep Worthington Christian with ease. Nour S. said, “It was an easy sweep and just what we needed going into Dig Pink.”
Dig Pink is the girls annual fundraiser that supports the Side-Out Foundation, which is a non-profit that funds breast cancer research out of Virginia. This foundation unites volleyball teams nationwide through the Dig Pink movement. For this event, Academy played Buckeye Valley but fell short. The first set ended 20-25 with the Vikes just five points shy of a comeback. This score repeated 20-25 for the next two sets leading Academy to a loss. Senior captain, Lily T. said, “It was one of our most competitive games of the season.” She added, “In the end, we kept our spirits high while gathering money for breast cancer research.”
Following Dig Pink, the Vikings bounced back on Saturday, September 27, in a clean 3-0 sweep against Grandview Heights.
On September 30, the girls travel to Bexley, where they meet the Lions, to whom they fell short 2-3 earlier in the season.
