Vikings continue to struggle

On September 13, the Vikings traveled to Buckeye Valley to take on the Barons in a key match-up to start the week out strong. The Vikes battled defensively but once again struggled to convert their chances on the offensive end. Despite keeping the game close, Academy came up short, falling 2-0.

Later in the week, on September 17, the Vikes faced off against rival Bexley. Junior Brandon H. says, “This was a “must win game.” Despite being underdogs many students came to support. The Vikes looked to pull off the upset to re-spark its season but failed to do so, as the Lions proved their fast-paced offense (combined with shutting down Academy’s attack) was too much for the young team, ultimately dropping the contest 4-0. This grim score does not display the Vikings performance as they fought throughout all 90 minutes of the game and showed their grit.

These two losses drop the Vikings record to a tragic 1-9, compared to last season’s 7-3 through ten games. Brandon H. says, “The Vikes lost 13 seniors from last year, 9 of them being starters.” This could explain the team’s sudden and recurring fall. The Vikings have four more games to turn this around before playoffs.

The Vikings next match is September 27, against Bishop Ready on Hondros.
