On Saturday, September 20, at 8 p.m., Academy students filled the Dining Hall for one of the biggest nights of the year—homecoming. The space transformed into a Las Vegas-inspired celebration with bright lights, steady music, and a buzzing atmosphere. Students from every grade came together to share the night, continuing a tradition that unites the Academy community each fall.
Homecoming has long been a staple of American high schools. Across the country, students gather each autumn for a dance that blends school spirit with community. At Academy, the tradition carries special weight, as each year brings a new theme that shapes the decorations, music, and energy of the night.
This year’s Vegas theme brought glamour and excitement with dramatic lighting that filled the space, while the DJ kept the dance floor moving. The setup captured the high energy of Las Vegas and gave students a night to remember.
The event, however, took weeks of preparation. Student Council members, particularly sophomores, handled the planning and execution. Among them was sophomore representative Gaby Arrese, who played a major role in coordinating the dance.
Gaby said that homecoming carried a significant price tag. “Homecoming cost over $1,400,” she said, noting that about $1,200. went to the DJ and to the lighting. While the expense was high, the professional setup helped bring the Vegas theme to life.
But for Gaby, the most difficult part wasn’t the budget. “It was hard to coordinate everyone to get their part done and to lead the homecoming committee,” she said. With responsibilities spread across decorations, ticket sales, and logistics, keeping the process organized required persistence.
Teamwork made the difference. “We overcame challenges by having everyone work together to get things done,” she said. Through collaboration, the committee turned weeks of planning into a smooth and successful night.
Homecoming 2025 was more than just a dance—it reflected the tradition and teamwork that defines Columbus Academy. From the glittering Vegas lights to the students working behind the scenes, it showed how much the community can achieve together.
