Field hockey split its two games this week, falling to defending state champion, Thomas Worthington 8-3 on the road on Monday, September 15, before bouncing back with a 6-0 victory at Dublin Jerome on Wednesday, September 17.
Against Thomas Worthington, the Cardinals struck first before Bebe S. equalized on a stroke. Bebe then scored again to put Academy ahead 2-1, but the Cardinals quickly responded to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. Kendall O. scored in the second half to even the game at 3-3, but Thomas Worthington regained the lead and extended it to 5-3 by the end of the third quarter. The Cardinals then pulled away in the fourth, closing out an 8-3 win, despite Academy’s strong early fight.
“We knew Thomas was going be tough, and it was. But we knew in order to win on Wednesday, we had to reset our mindset and not dwell on the loss,” said senior captain, Caroline M.
The Vikes did just that, dominating Dublin Jerome from start to finish. Katie N. scored twice, Julia M. added two more, while Sophia S. and Sydney J. each tallied a goal to round out the 6-0 victory.
The Vikings are back in action next week, taking on Granville at home on Wednesday, September 24, followed by an away matchup at Olentangy on Saturday, September 27.
