Cross Country Defends Home Field

On Saturday, September 21, your Columbus Academy cross-country Vikes hosted the Vikings Invitational. Going into the meet, the Vikings knew the course would be a grind. With the unusual terrain, it was certainly going to be challenging. Senior runner Chris Hill noted, “The course had a hilly pattern that would be a challenge”.

Despite this, the Vikes were able to notch great times. Despite the tough layout, both the boys and girls teams came ready to compete. The runners attacked the hills with determination, and Dane C. set a mark on the challenging course. The Vikings benefited from home-field advantage as they dashed around a familiar Carlin Fields.

The boys put on a gritty performance. The familiarity proved advantageous as Dane C. was able to dominate the 5000 meters, finishing in 18 minutes and three seconds. Chris Hill finished closely behind in second in 18 minutes and 29 seconds. The girls’ squad excelled. Claire C. and Livia P. battled hard, achieving second and third places, respectively. The pair finished one after the other, timing in at 22:39 and 22:47.

Overall, the Vikings rose to the occasion and performed when it counted. The boys and girls cross country squads will race again at the Panther Invitational on Saturday, September 27, at Pickerington North for a midseason challenge.
