On Friday, September 12, the football team traveled two hours to Dover to face the Crimson Tornados. Both teams took beatings in last week’s games and were hungry for a win.

Academy kicked the ball off to start the game but quickly took back possession with a fumble. On offense, Vikings quarterback Michael T. zipped a pass to Charlie P. in the end zone to put up the first points of the game. While Charlie R. racked up another touchdown, Academy’s defense kept Dover scoreless in the first quarter.

Keeping the momentum rolling, Parker S. marched the ball into the end zone for a rushing touchdown. The Crimson Tornados eventually responded, putting up seven points. The scoreboard read 20-7 going into halftime.

Moving into the third quarter no score was recorded as neither team capitalized on their offensive opportunities. In the final quarter, Dover began to climb their way back into the game. They racked up two touchdowns, capturing a 21-20 lead with four minutes left. Academy quickly tried to respond, but the Tornados ripped the ball away for a scoop and score. With two minutes left, Viking’s offense ran a jet sweep and Gabe D-R. talliedsix points. To tie the game, Academy went for a two-point conversion. Michael threw the ball up and Charlie P. caught it in the back of the end zone. This insane performance sent them into overtime.

Gabe D-R. put an end to the 28-28 tie, scoring the first touchdown in overtime. Dover did not back down and racked up a touchdown as well, sending the game into a second overtime. When Dover tried punching it down the field, the Vijes defense stopped them. On offense, Michael quickly put an end to the game as he ran into the end zone, earning a 40-34 win for the Vikes.

The boys will welcome Worthington Christian to Hondros Field on Friday, September 19.
