With the season nearing its end, the boys tennis team had another busy yet undefeated week. They remain first in the Central Buckeye League standing, holding a perfect 13-0 win record.
The Vikings won against New Albany (3-2) on Monday, April 28, which team described as the “match of the year.” Nason L. won his first singles match (7-5, 6-1), but Lucas X. and Jacob K. of second and third singles fell short (3-6, 3-6, and 2-6, 0-6). Fortunately, Ian C. and Rowen L. of first doubles earned a 7-5, 6-1 win, and second doubles team Sujay B. and Jayden T. secured the victory with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
On Wednesday, the Vikings swept Division I Olentangy Orange, which secured Academy the number one spot in all of Division II. Nason aced his first singles match (6-0, 6-0). Lucas and Jacob also won second and third singles with scores of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-2. To finish, doubles teams Ian and Rowen, along with Sujay and Jayden, defeated the Pioneers 6-1, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-2.
On Saturday, May 3, the team traveled to Toledo to face St. Johns Jesuit and won 4-1. Lucas and Jacob defeated their first and second singles opponents 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-1. Bennett had an unfortunate loss in third singles (2-6, 2-6), but Ian and Rowen of first doubles, along with Sujay and Jayden of second doubles, secured a win for the Vikes, finishing 6-3, 6-3, and 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.
The boys have their last week of matches before the post-season arrives on May 7 and 9.
