From Tuesday, February 25, to Thursday, February 27, Academy hosted its first Upper School Book Fair in the Sophomore Lounge. This highly anticipated event brought together students, faculty, and staff to explore an extensive collection of books curated specifically for teen, young adult, and adult readers. With over 300 titles selected by Ms. Nzimiro and Ms. Risinger, along with the staff from Gramercy Books, there was no shortage of options to browse and purchase.
Excitement had been building up for weeks leading up to this milestone event. The fair accommodated a variety of payment methods, including cash, credit/debit cards, Gramercy gift cards, and Apple Pay, making it easy for anyone to participate. As an added incentive, students Katio M. and Claire Z. each won a certificate for a free book through a pre-fair giveaway.
To enhance this experience, attendees enjoyed complimentary hot cider and tea on Wednesday. Additionally, each purchase at the fair came with a special bonus of a 10% off coupon for the Viking Corner, valid both in-store and online from February 24 to March 12. This incentive encouraged reading and supported school spirit.
A dedicated team of parents worked with Melissa Clarke Beckett, Director of Parent Relations, to bring this event to life. Committee co-chairs, Laura McDonald P’36 and 38 and Meredith Levine P’38 , worked with nine other PACA members throughout the fair.
This Book Fair represented an exciting new chapter in Upper School life, blending the nostalgia of elementary school book fairs with a selection of titles tailored for older students. Students who explored, shopped, and celebrated the joy of reading.
