MLB Spring training starts in Florida and Arizona

Baseball is back! On February 20, the Grapefruit League in Florida, consisting of 15 teams from the American League, took the field for the first time in 2025, while the National league started the following day in Arizona. While these games do not count to the team’s official record, you can get a good read on how the teams are looking for the start of the season.

The Chicago Cubs, with a record just over .500 last year, have come out swinging, jumping to a 6-0 start. The defending champion, the Los Angeles Dodgers, are sitting at underwhelming 2-5, while they finished at the top of the Cactus League last year.

Lots of eyes will be on the Cincinnati Reds. With the acquisition of new head coach, Terry Francona, Reds’ fans look to have him lead this young group of superstars to a postseason run.

Another team to look out for is the New York Mets, with addition of superstar Juan Soto, who signed a 765,000,000 dollar contract this offseason. Although Soto hasn’t been living up to his monster paycheck so far in Florida, Mets fans still have high hopes to see where this team can go.

Home runs have been a theme in this year’s spring training with Long Balls flying in both Florida and Arizona, the most memorable being Elly De La Cruz’s 430 ft. no doubter, followed by yet another homer from the other side of the plate, his following at bat.

Spring training continues through mid-March, the season officially kicks off on March 27.
