Athletics and College Counseling Host Athletic Recruiting Presentation

On Wednesday, February 26, many student athletes in grades 9-11, including myself, gathered in the Trustees Room during Common Hour to learn about the college athletic recruiting process. The Athletics department and College Counseling partnered to host this event, which was the first student-focused meeting in a few years, as in recent years when only parents attended. The meeting was centered around a presentation on general guides to recruitment.

College counseling introduced students to what to consider when looking at different schools, with factors that include the size and location of the school, academic level, division and commitment to the sport, and scholarship opportunities in different levels. The athletic department followed with steps to start this process of getting on the schools’ coaches radar, which included filling out questionnaires for college coaches, emailing them, attending college camps, and discussing college options with club and school coaches.

I found this meeting to be  informative and helpful because the presentation gives students a look into their starting steps when considering playing at a collegiate level. Sophomore athlete Kyndal S. said, “It was very informative and made me feel more confident about the college recruiting process.”

This presentation is a great introduction to the process of college recruiting and one I would recommend to anyone interested in playing collegiate-level sports.
