Three games, three wins. Buckeye Valley, Beechcroft, and Horizon Science were the next three victims of the Red Hot Vikings. Thanks to a Franklin Heights victory over Bishop Ready, Academy can secure the top spot if they win one of their last two games of the year. The Maroon and Gray were propelled to new heights, thanks to Theo F. who officially passed 1000 career points against Horizon Science. This feat has been unobtainable by a boys basketball player since 2017 when Ryan Alexander dropped 1k for the Vikings. Sophie Spolter was the last player for either boys or girls to accomplish this accolade.
Buckeye Valley fell early and fast with the Vikings getting up early and holding out for a quick 54-38 victory on Tuesday. Caden I. and MJ J. both had 8 points.
The Vikings returned home for a tough matchup against Beechcroft. This game was a lot closer than it needed to be. Part of the problem was Academy shot 19% from three-point range. If it wasn’t for the 45 rebounds the Vikes pulled down, I don’t think they could’ve won this game. Theo led the way with 10 points, Jason had 6, and Caden had 7.
Finally, Senior Night lived up to all the hype. Abe U. nailed a three early in the game to start the Vikings off. Jason S. had two big dunks, as well as Gabe D-R. getting one of his own. Theo F. hit the 1k mark before halftime. MJ J. dominated the paint all game long. Cole S. finally returned to the court after missing the season with an injury. The energy was palpable, and students packed the house to celebrate this decorated group of seniors. The Vikings were on fire, shooting 53% and 45% from three. Anderson D. ended with 12 points, Theo F. had 15, and MJ J. had 12.
The Vikings will look to claim the top of CBL, traveling to Bishop Ready Tuesday, February 11, and returning home to cap off their regular season on Friday, February 14, for Franklin Heights.
