Columbus Academy faced off against Tree of Life on January 7 for its first game of the new year. Both teams started out slowly until Morgan S. got an easy layup to tie the game 2-2. Kendall O. quickly followed that up with 2 threes to extend the Vikings’ lead. Strong defense from the Vikes propelled them to 14-4 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was strong defensively for both teams, Academy only tallying 4 points off of two layups by Liana L. and Sydney A, giving the Vikes a 18-11 lead going into half. The Vikings were on fire coming out of half, scoring 8 straight points unanswered, forcing The Tree of Life to take a timeout, which gave the Vikes even more momentum. Off of points by Morgan S. Kyndal S. and Kendall O., Academy ran away with the game, winning 40-29.

The Vikings traveled to Bishop Ready for its next game, hoping to gain its second in conference win. The Vikes had previously had trouble with the Silver Knights, losing in its last four games including its 41-37 defeat this year. Despite this, the Vikes were able to pull off the upset winning 39-31 thanks to key scores from Kendall O. Morgan S. Kyndal S. And Abby S.

The Vikes looks to continue this winning streak into next weeks game against Licking Vally hosted in the Mack.
