The Vikings continued to dominate the CBL with wins over Grandview Heights and Bexley last week. The return of Theo lived up to the hype.
In their match against Bexley, the boys got off to a hot start scoring 14 before the Lions could produce a single point. Led by Jason, MJ and Anderson, the maroon and gray were cooking on offense. A slam by Jason would only be upstaged by a single late layup from senior Abe U. Even without Jason’s momentum-killing throw-down, the Vikings were stomping left and right all over the Lions. It was a one-sided affair from the get-go and never bothered to change anyone’s mind.
Against the Bobcats, the Vikes were led by duo Theo F. and Anderson D. The duo combined for 26 points. In a 53-35 slugfest, it’s difficult to find negatives. Rey P. made his way onto the court for varsity and got a tough bucket for the maroon and gray. The anticipated return of Theo trumped many other storylines, and it did not disappoint, as the senior guard produced a double-digit scoreline as well as a couple of assists.
The Vikings made light work of the bobcats in Grandview. It will be interesting to see how the Vikings fare against Worthington Christian with potential CBL implications and a tiebreaker on the line. Not to mention that a rematch could occur again in the district finals.
Regarding the team’s success, Anderson said, “We’re just a good team.” The Vikings have been a good team so far with an undefeated record but no keystone wins yet. We will see just how long the hot streak will run, with some tough games against Worthington Christian and Buckeye Valley around the bend.
The Vikings travel to Worthington Christian on Friday, December 20, for their only game this week. A headline to look for is Coach Exline’s 400th victory as a coach at Academy. He is currently at 399.
