On Thursday, November 14, during lunch, juniors and seniors presented their summer internship research projects to classmates, teachers, and Academy’s trustees, as part of the Columbus Academy Applied Science Program (CAApS), an internship that collaborates with The Ohio State College of Engineering.
Students work in research labs of various fields, including computer science, engineering, and medicine. Over 8-12 weeks, they worked 20-40 hours per week, gaining experience in working in a lab. Academy recommends that students who are interested in engineering, science, research, or medicine apply to this program.
In these presentations, the students explained the objective, methods, and results of their labs. Projects ranged from DNA manipulation to developing technology to classify wildfires and demonstrated their understanding of the complicated methods of their labs.
Participants found this internship to be valuable, stating, “It helped me understand a lot about what research in a lab looks like, and it was an amazing experience.” This program is a great opportunity for Columbus Academy students interested in STEM and research to gain experience and learn more about fields that they are interested in.
