Academy’s DESI club revitalized its annual Diwali assembly on Monday, November 4, at assembly. Led by presidents Ridah A., Arnav N., Priya R., and Sunil S., the club shared facts about the holiday’s origin, as well as performing a dance for the Upper School.

Diwali is a Hindu holiday celebrating good’s triumph over evil. It follows the story of King Rama returning back to his Kingdom with his brother Lakshmana and wife Sita after defeating the demon King Ravana. To celebrate, people light oil lamps known as diyas, in addition to decorating their floors with long strips of colorful fabrics called jhalars in rangoli designs.

Diwali is a major bonding time for families and communities, who come together to feast.

DESI club member, Sujay B. says, “I enjoyed being able to educate and share my culture with our community.”
