Senior year comes with its unique stressors, but it also brings some of the best Academy traditions along with it. On Tuesday, October 22, in the midst of early college applications and the end of the first quarter, the seniors made their way during an early advisory meeting to the dining hall to meet their K-buddies for a festive fall activity: carving pumpkins!
Well, it wasn’t quite carving, more like watching the buddies peel and stick googly eyes, feathers, beads, puffy stickers, and pipe-cleaners onto their pumpkins with a smile on their faces.
Violet, my buddy, took a more abstract take on decorating pumpkins: with six eyes, two mouths, one crown, and a lot of glitter total. I took a backseat, watching her creative process and helping her peel the glue dots along the way.
The K-buddy program at CA is one of the most cherished traditions, with seniors writing letters, making snowflakes, and playing with their kindergartners on a monthly basis. The student liaison this year is Molly F., coordinating with all four classes and the ever-changing highschool schedule to make this uniquely Academy experience happen.
Despite the extended advisory time, the activity flew by, ending with a beautiful line of pumpkins our buddies got to take back to their classrooms, and the seniors got to leave with the memories.
