Guessing Game Ends: Spring Musical is “Big Fish”

On Monday, September 31, musical director, Ms. Eads, revealed that Big Fish, a story filled with epic adventure and a lot of heart, was the winning answer to the “Guess the Title” competition. The game included over 10 clues that led students and faculty to naming the musical. The most prominent set of clues was the first, a tall tree and cattails, which are both related to the setting of the show. Another obvious clue was the shark (a big fish) a direct reference to the title. The father, Edward, recounts his life to his son through storybook-esque flashbacks.

After many days and clues, eleven people guessed correctly. Claire S. won the prize from the raffle.

While Big Fish does have a comic aspect to it, there is a sadder mood to the musical, as the main characters grapple with mortality through their dying father.

Ms. Eads is excited to do a musical that showcases the range of the theater department: “We have only done mostly comedies since COVID, and I felt like this year we could handle a tone shift,” she said.

Support the theater department’s The Importance of Being Earnest when tickets go on sale Wednesday, October 9.
