On Monday September 30, Columbus Academy hosted Bexley, looking to beat the Lions for the second time this year. Despite being a rivalry game, both teams came together to celebrate Dig Pink Night, a fundraiser run by the Sideout Foundation to raise money and spread awareness for metastatic breast cancer.
Before the match began, team parents decorated the Athletic Lobby in everything pink from table cloths, to a table with pink desserts to pink streamers lining every wall. The Vikes came on court wearing pink jerseys.
With their biggest crowd of the year, the Vikes had a full gym behind them, and it seemed to help them tremendously, as they defeated the Lions in the first set by a one sided 25-13 win. The Vikes were not going to let this one slip away, as they defeated Bexley in the second set, by a score of 25-18. The Vikes showed no mercy, as they beat the Lions in the final set 25-15, to sweep them 3-0.
Coming off the biggest win of the year, the Vikings traveled to Grandview Heights for their final game of the week. They carried the momentum from Monday and blew out the Bobcats in the first set 10-25, and the second set was no different, as the Vikes won by a lopsided 8-25. The Bobcats put up a last-minute fight, but the Vikes pulled away winning the final set 17-25, putting the Vikings record at 13-7.
The Vikes next matchup is on Tuesday, September 10, against a tough opponent, Buckeye Valley, who for now sits at number one in the CBL.
