It was a great night for CA football on Friday, August 30, as they tallied another home win against the Jonathan Alder Pioneers 27-9, putting the Vikings 2 – 0 for the season.

The Pioneers struck first early after finding the end zone on a short screen pass, but a botched reception from the long snapper to the holder resulted in an unsuccessful extra point, making the score 6 – 0 in favor of the Pioneers.

Academy quarterback Cole S. responded by taking matters into his own hands, keeping the ball himself and sprinting into the end zone for a 50-yard touchdown on 4th & 1. A successful extra point by Abe U. put the Vikes up 7 – 6 at the end of the first.

The Pioneers tacked on a field goal at the start of the second quarter, reclaiming the lead at 9 – 7. The Vikings immediately responded when Griffin B. broke loose from multiple defenders and bolted 50 yards to the house. The missed extra point brought the Vikings a 13 – 9 lead going into the half.

The momentum never stopped for the Vikings, as Cole found Gabe D-R. in the end zone with a short touchdown pass. Abe converted again, extending Academy’s lead to 11 at the end of the third.

Academy’s defense forced yet another punt for the Pioneers at the start of the fourth, allowing the offense to march down the field and seal the game as Cole kept the ball and found the pylon from 10 yards out for his second touchdown of the night. The Viking defense stood strong for the last two quarters, resulting in a scoreless half for the Pioneers, making the final score 27 – 9.

Academy hosts Newark Catholic Green Wave on Friday, September 6, in search of becoming 3 – 0, after the annual Charlie David Dinner.
