On Monday, August 26, the boys soccer squad returned to action against the Bishop Hartley Hawks. Both offense and defense struggled to begin the match as the Vikings defense allowed two first half goals and the offense failed to generate any scoring opportunities. At halftime the score read 2-0 with Hartley leading. The third quarter proved to be more of the same as neither teams offense added to their scores. The Vikings had no momentum going into the final quarter as they still trailed by two goals. Eventually, the Vikings had the opportunity they had been waiting for as senior Harry L. launched the ball into the back of the net notching the score at 1-2 with less 6 minutes left. The Vikings late offensive attack with Harry L. did not end there as he scored a second, tying it up with 5 minutes left. The Vikings had stolen all the momentum at this point in the game and were ready to take advantage. Senior Connor M. clobbered the ball from the deep left side of the pitch for an outstanding goal and a 3-2 Vikings victory.

The boys next challenge was on Wednesday, August 28, against Franklin Heights and their first home game on Hondros. As soon as the game started, the Falcons seemed to be no match for the maroon and gray as multiple early goals and a great defense for the Vikes served a 8-1 halftime score. The second half proved more of the same as the Vikings added three goals and more spectacular shots stopped by goalkeeper, Seth L. These second half stats resulted in a 11-1 victory for the Vikes.

On Thursday, August 29, the Westland Cougars traveled to Hondros as the Vikings entered this game as winners of four straight and by a combined margin of 22-6 goals. The game began back and forth as both teams were putting shots on goal as offensive pressure for them ramped up. By halftime it was 2-1 with the Cougars in the lead. The Vikings defense, back on track, responded by allowing only one goal in the second half. The Vikings offensive attack also stepped later in the game up thanks to Nick D. And Brian A. who both scored in the second half. The Vikings offense did not let up as they continued to pressure Westlands defense but ultimately came up just short, ending in a 3-3 tie.

The Vikings will take on Whitehall’s Rams away on Wednesday, September 4.
