Girls 800m Sprint Medley Tops School Record

The boys and girls track teams dominated this week as they traveled to Worthington Christian on Tuesday and Whitehall on Friday. On Friday, the girls sprint medley with Caitlynn H., Irena A., Sydney F., and Mila B., broke Academy’s record of 2:00.02 set in 2018 with a time of 1:59.93. 

Starting on Tuesday, Charlie B., Cole S. Dane C., Gabe D-R., and Patrick F. led the boys’ team as they won gold in their respective events on Tuesday. Caden I., Charlie B., Cody H., Elliott S., Max B., Patrick F., and Sebastian E. took third place. As Carson J., Chris H., Elliott S., Gabe D-R., MJ J., the 4x400m relay, and the 4x800m all took home silver medals.

The girls team saw similar success with Zoya A. winning two events along with Alli K. and the 4x400m relay. Clara S., Ella L., Mila B., Morgan S., and Sydney F. all placed second. As Eliora T.,  Melanie Q., Mila B., Morgan S., Sam W.,  and the 4x800m securing a bronze medal Tuesday.

The girls also dominated on Friday, as they cruised to a team win. With a point margin of 31 points over second-place Independence High, the Vikings totaled 113 points, 54 of which came from relays alone. Alli K., Clara S., Mila B., Zoya A., the 4×400, the sprint medley, the 4×800, and the 4×100 shuttle hurdle all took gold in Whitehall. The 4x100m took home the only silver medal. Ella L., Morgan S., and the 4×200 rounded out scoring for the week with third-place finishes.

The boys claimed bronze medal with less than three total points behind hosts Whitehall for second. Chris H. and the 4×400 both won their events. Charlie B., Elliott S., 4×800, and the 4000m distance medley all took silvers back to Cherry Bottom Road. The boys 4×200 finished the week with a bronze medal to match the team. With a point margin of 31 points over second-place Independence High, the Vikings totaled 113 points, 54 of which came from relays alone. Alli K., Clara S., Mila B., Zoya A., the 4×400, the sprint medley, the 4×800, and the 4×100 Shuttle Hurdle relay all took home the gold in Whitehall. The 4x100m took home the only silver medal. Both teams will return to action on Wednesday for Senior Night against Bishop Watterson at 4:30 p.m. before rounding out the week on Friday for the Fredericktown Invitational.
