Baseball Loses to Worthington Christian, Hammers Whitehall and Fredericktown

The Columbus Academy varsity baseball team went 3-1 from April 8 to April 14. 

Hosting Worthington Christian on Tuesday, April 9, the Vikes fell short 4-6. It was an even match through 4 innings, tied 1-1. In the last 3 innings, the Warriors ran away with it, scoring 2 in the top of the 5th and the top of the 6th as well as 1 in the top of the 7th, while CA only scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th.

The Vikings hosted their first of two matches against Whitehall-Yearling on Wednesday, April 10, as Academy etched out a narrow 14-13 victory. The Vikes were down 1-8 heading into the bottom of the 6th but rallied in a massive 10 runs in this inning, with Theo F., Harmon G., Joey G., Anthony P., Trey R., Thomas R., Sunil S., Joseph S., and Jason S. all scoring. Although the Vikes allowed 5 runs in the top of the 7th, they tied the score with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th and then shut out the Rams 1-0 in the 8th.

At Whitehall-Yearling on Friday, April 12, the Vikings obliterated the Rams, winning 24-1 in only 4 innings, after which the match ended due to the mercy rule.

Academy hosted Fredericktown on Saturday, April 13, beating the Freddies 6-2. The match was never close, with Academy maintaining the lead the entire time.

The team’s next match is at its rival Bexley on Monday, April 15, at 5:15 p.m.
