On April 5 and 6, the racing Vikings got a start to their season. Last Tuesday’s weather postponed the season-opening meet to Friday, but our Vikes were unfazed.

Starting on Friday, the Vikings took to the podium with first-place finishes by Andy L., in the boys  800m and Zephyr H, in the girls 400dash, another the girls 4x400m relay, and a pair of first-place finishes by Sophie L. in the 800m and 1600m. Ayden N., Cody H., MJ J., and the boys 4×400 and the 4x800m all placed second in their respective events. Lauren G. and the boys second 4×400 relay gained bronze medals.

Saturday was the first major test for the Vikings, as the boys secured 7th place and girls grabbed 6th. Only Alli K. took home first as she cleared the competition in the high jump.

The team also strung together a few second-place finishes with Morgan S. barely getting edged out by Alli by an inch in the high jump. The girls 4x400m was three seconds off of first, as was their shuttle hurdle relay wth fewer than two seconds separating them from Bishop Watterson.

MJ J. took home the bronze in shot put. The boys distance medley also took third-place to end the day.

The Vikings will have one meet this week, as they will travel to Bexley on Friday., April 12. The opening race starts at 4:30 p.m.
