Nina K. and Ceci R. Stand Out at Girls Wrestling Regionals

Nina K. and Ceci R. traveled to Olentangy Orange on Sunday, March 3 for the regional round of the OHSAA girls wrestling, where they qualified for the state tournament. Ceci placed 3rd in the 105-pound weight class, Nina placed 2nd in the 135-pound weight class, and the girls propelled CA to 14th place out of 67 competing schools.

Ceci began the tournament with a record of 23-3, and in her first match, she pinned Gianna B. (starting record of 9-19) from Steubenville at the 2:53 mark. Ceci faced more resistance in the following quarterfinal match against Ally D. (26-10) from River Valley, but she triumphed with a pin at 5:34. No one achieved a pin in her semifinal match, and Ceci fell 4-8 to Ashlyn B. (33-3) from Mount Vernon. She bounced back in her third-place consolation match, pinning Megan J. (17-8) from Watkins Memorial at 3:00.

Nina started the day at 23-4, and she demolished Destiny O. (22-18) from Big Walnut in the first round, pinning her at 0:57. Nina sailed through the quarterfinals as well, pinning Charlea H. (23-10) from Olentangy at 1:47. In the semifinals, she was victorious 10-6 against Maleah B. (19-17) from Steubenville. Nina lost a close finals match 8-9 to Madilynn R. (28-8) from Jackson.

The girls travel to the Schottenstein Center at The Ohio State University at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 8 to test their might in the state tournament.
