As you may know, Academy does not recognize Indoor Track as an official sport. Indoor track isn’t even an OHSAA sport, the meets and state meet are hosted by the Ohio Association for Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC). This did not stop the Vikings from sending both the girls 4x200m and 4x400m to the State meet last year. Revived by Caitlynn H. two years ago, the Indoor track program saw a rise in participation with fourteen athletes this past season.
In the last meet of the season on February 10th, the Vikings saw 12 PRs with Zoya A., Alli K., Dane C., and the Girls 4x200m relay placing in the top ten of their respective races. Other notable performances included; Sunil S. placing 13th in his shotput debut, Caitlynn H. having a season-best in the 200m, Lizzie B. also had a season-best in the 400m, and Clement W. having a PR in the boys’ 60m.
Alli K. qualified for Saturday’s OATCCC Division 2/3 state indoor meet in the High Jump and Triple Jump. She had a day full of podiums, claiming the state title in High Jump with a height of 5 feet 8.5 inches, setting a new indoor state record, and placing third in the Triple Jump with 34 feet and 9 inches. Saturday is a good foreshadowing of the leadership and success the spring outdoor track team will have.
