Competing at the Branin Natatorium for states on Friday, February 23, the Aquavikes brought home several podium finishes and a relay victory.
The boys 200 free relay (Andy L., William D., Mircea B., and William H.) clinched first in 1:27.01 after a thrilling comeback from William H. They defeated University School’s team by five-tenths of a second, making it the first swim championship since 2018. The squad also captured a silver in the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:36.09.
After anchoring the relays, William H. snagged second in the 100 free (45.96) and fourth in the 100 breast (57.83). Andy followed close behind in the 100 free (48.56 for 11th place), while William D. swam in the 100 breast (1:00.12 for 13th place). Rounding out the finalists, Andy placed ninth in the 50 free with 21.74.
The girls found similar success in the relays, featuring Lillian B., Maddie E., Olivia L., and Ella L. They snagged fifth in the 400 free (3:35.29) and sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:49.23).
Lillian secured eighth place in the 200 IM, swimming 2:09.80. In the 50 free and 100 free, Olivia swam 24.43 and 53.19, placing 10th and 12th, respectively. Ella competed in the 500 free, finishing in 5:19.22 for 15th place.
The 2023-24 swim season concluded with a state title, third place overall for the boys, and eighth place overall for the girls. Congratulations to the AquaVikes for a successful season!
