Sitting sixth in the conference with a 7-11 record, girls’ basketball rebounded with two wins after five consecutive losses.
For its first game of the week, the team traveled to Dublin Scioto on Tuesday, January 30. Despite lagging 6-9 at the end of quarter one, the girls bounced to 32-15 in quarter two. With their newfound momentum and the Irish’s discouraged spirits, Scioto scored five points in quarter four in contrast to Academy’s 60 total. With lead scorers Morgan S. and Kendall O. contributing 20 and 12 points, respectively, the girls shattered their five-loss game streak, finishing 60-28.
The team carried its victory to face Grove City Christian in the Mack on Thursday, February 1. Kendall scored 33 points, an impressive team-high for the season. The Vikings took the lead from the start as the score progressed from 24-9 to 43-17 by the half and 63-22 to 70-26 at the end.
Despite the two victories, the Vikings faltered against Buckeye Valley on Friday, February 2, losing 22-55. Morgan led with two free throws in the first quarter, but the Vikes trailed 6-24. Kendall shot a three-pointer with one second left in quarter two, and even with her two other threes, the Vikes failed to catch up.
Next, girls basketball will host Senior Night on Tuesday, February 6, at 6:30 p.m. against Grandview Heights. The Vikings and Bobcats will battle again on Thursday, February 8, and the girls will travel to Worthington Christian on Saturday, February 10.
