Girls basketball suffered two losses, tallying a 5-7 record, which places them fifth out of eight teams in the Central Buckeye Conference.
In its first game against Elgin on Wednesday, December 17, the team fell 29-40. Kendall O., Eleanor S., and Alison C. shot two three-pointers apiece, leading with 12, 8, and 6 points, respectively. Despite an early 8-6 Viking lead, the Comets closed the gap 18-17 by the half and scored 21 points to Academy’s 11 in the second half. However, the Viking spirit remained unwavering as the Little Dribblers starred at halftime. Choreographed by Ms. Adams each year, the third-grade P.E. class spun, dribbled, and bounced their basketballs to create a unique mashup.
Amid inclement weather on our first snow day, the girls battled rival Bexley on Friday, January 19. In quarter one, shots from Eleanor and Katie N. contributed five points to Bexley’s 15. Unable to bridge the gap, the Vikes trailed the Lions 19-27 by the end of quarter two. After successes from Alison, Kendall, and Eleanor in quarter three, the score read 34-39 with both sides hoping for a victory. The Lions pulled away in quarter four, delivering a 40-54 Academy loss.
Hoping for a turn-around in its next three games, the team travels to Bishop Ready on Tuesday, January 23, Harvest Preparatory on Thursday, January 25, and Columbus School for Girls on Saturday, January 27.
