On Wednesday, January 17, The American Red Cross ran its second Blood Drive of the year in the athletic lobby from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students, teachers, and faculty gave blood to save lives. There were 52 people who donated and the team collected 43 units. Among these were 3 power red blood cell procedures which allow for one donor to give two units of blood. Fruit juice, cookies, and candy were offered to donors to prevent dizziness and restore glucose levels
Unfortunately, the Red Cross deferred twelve donors who filed forms to donate but didn’t meet the specified requirements such as low iron levels. Thank you to Ms. Bening, Ms. Crain, and student volunteers Miranda B., Alli K., Priya R., and Eliora T. who helped with check-in and overseeing the event.
The next blood drive will be on Wednesday, April 10. If you meet the age, height, and weight requirements, please consider donating to this thirty-one year tradition.
