Ice Hockey Drops Two on the Road

(Lauren G./Staff)

In a Friday night showdown, the Vikes battled Olentangy at Chiller North on December 8 at 7 p.m. The Braves, in the white division, one higher than the Vikings, resulted in a tough battle from the start. Opening up play, the Braves earned a goal at 12:06. The Vikes gave up one more goal before earning a power play due to a Olentangy penalty. Despite having the man-up advantage, the Braves bagged another goal. Still with the man-up advantage, the Braves landed another player in the penalty box, giving the Vikes a 5-3 man advantage. Looking to capitalize on the powerplay, Will B. tapped in a rebound from Joseph S. to move the score to 3-1. The first period ended 4-1.

The Braves added one more goal to their total. Both teams received penalties halfway through the second, so each rival competed with only 4 players on the ice. The Braves bagged 4 more goals to end the second 8-1.

At the end of the third, the final score read 12-1.

The Vikings second battle of the weekend took them to Sports Plus in Cincinnati on Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m. to play St. Xavier. The Bombers, also a white division team, dominated the Vikes 12-0 to close out the Maroon and Grey’s third weekend of play.

The Vikings will return to play Worthington Kilbourne on Friday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.
