Aquavikes Shatter Records at Ned Reeb

Lillian B. (Melanie Q./Staff)

The Aquavikes competed in the Ned Reeb Invitational at The Ohio State University on Saturday, December 2 for their season’s second meet. Most of the team swam in the B-flight the previous day, but swimmers with low qualifying times were eligible for Saturday’s A-flight. Lillian B., Maddie E., Rene F., Olivia L., Ella L., and Morgan S. represented the girls, placing an impressive fourth out of 34 schools. Meanwhile, the boys sent Mircea B., William D., William H., Andy L., Luke L., and Greyson T., finishing 10th out of 36 schools.

The boys scored 133 points, with William H. earning first in the 100 free and second in the 100 breast. He finished in 46.72 and 57.75 in those events, shaving off 0.58 and 0.9 seconds from the preliminary round.

Several girls achieved podium finishes in both relay and individual events. Lillian, Maddie, Olivia, and Morgan surged to third in the 200 medley relay with 1:50.04 and individual splits of 27.33, 32.20, 25.23, and 25.28, respectively. The four nabbed another bronze in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:39.37.

In addition to winning gold at the invitational, Lillian’s 2:05.83 in the 200 IM shattered Academy’s school record, edging out Lauren K.’s 2:06.71 in 2022.

Lillian says, “It was definitely an honor to be able to break a record at a school like Academy and hopefully there’ll be more to come later this season!”

With a glimpse of the toughest competition behind them, the Vikes will host Bexley and Pickerington on Friday, December 12 at 5:30 p.m.
