Girls basketball played its first two games, falling to Granville on Monday, September 27 before defeating Whitehall-Yearling on Friday, December 1.

The girls traveled to Granville for their season opener, losing 58-18. The Blue Aces scored 41 points in the first half, but Academy’s defense only let in 17 points during the second half. Kendall O. led the team with six points, Eleanor S. shot a three-pointer, and Allison F., Caroline M., Adaugo N., and Sam. W. each contributed two points.

Sam said, “Granville is in Division II and went to regionals last year, so it was a tough fight. I’d say that it was a learning experience, and we will only be going up from here!”

Indeed, the Vikes hosted the Rams four days later, conquering them 53-31. Alek B. gained the first two points and continued the momentum with an assist to Kendall. The girls led 28-19 at the half, extending their lead with notable contributions from new and veteran players alike. Sam made two three-pointers while Katie N. and Abby S. each tallied one. Allison, Adaugo, and Sam tied for lead scorer.

The girls hope to increase their wins as they travel to Bexley on Tuesday, December 5, to Licking Valley the following day, and host Bishop Ready on Saturday, December 9.
