As Academy’s only fall sport still playing, football traveled to Barnesville on Friday, November 3 for its second postseason game.
The Shamrocks scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, but running back Mikey J. closed the gap in the second quarter by sprinting 60 yards to the end zone. After Barnesville fumbled the ball, defensive end Ryne W. took possession, allowing running back Greyson T. to contribute another touchdown.
With the Vikes leading by one point going into the second half, the Shamrocks found the end zone, upping their score 19-14. Kicker Abe U. scored the final three points of the night, making a field goal from 34 yards out.
Though sixth-seed Academy lost 17-19 to the third-seed, undefeated Barnesville, the Vikes stood their ground, yet the Shamrocks still scored 19 points, a season-low for them and a loss for us.
Senior Mikey says, “I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates for pushing through adversity the whole season but never giving up. I’m so thankful for this magical senior season: finishing 10-2, destroying our rival, beating Saint Charles, and winning our last home game on Hondros. I’m truly blessed. The CA football family will always have a special place in my heart. This sport isn’t just about football—it’s about becoming better people and developing into the leaders of tomorrow.”
