Academy fans decked out in white for the Vikes win against Whitehall-Yearling on Friday, September 22.
Before kick-off, the team honored its ten seniors: Justin A., Jack D., Carson J., Mikey J., Tommy J., Greyson T., Nick T., Ryne W., Nick Y., and Jack Y.
Academy’s first score came as wide receiver Gabe D-R. ran into the end zone. Kicker Abe U. converted the extra point to lead 7-0 in the first quarter. With 27 seconds to go in the first quarter, the Rams fumbled the ball to defensive end Marcus J., allowing the Vikings to regain possession at the 13-yard line.
Abe’s 32-yard field goal added another three points in the second quarter. The Vikes increased their advantage when running back Greyson T. scored a touchdown and succeeded in a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 18-0. Two minutes later, defensive end Mikey tallied another seven points, ending the first half with a 25-0 lead.
In the second half, quarterback Cole S. and Abe both found the end zone. With a 39-point lead against the Rams and five minutes left in the game, Whitehall-Yearling scored its only touchdown, ending with a 39-6 Vikes win.
The Senior Night victory marked the team’s sixth win in a row. Football returns to action on Friday, September 29 away against rival Bexley.
