Field Hockey battled Lancaster on Monday, October 2, on Calin Field. Lauren G. carried the team with a goal in the first quarter after finding an opening in the opponents’ defensive line. Entering the second half, the Vikings maintained its one-point lead over the Golden Gales. During the third quarter, Lauren took a shot on the corner, extending the Viking lead 2-0. Carrying on the momentum, Bebe S. launched the ball past the goalie and into the cage. With no time left on the clock, Braydn C. put the nail in the coffin with a goal off of a corner.

Following the 4-0 victory against Lancaster, the team recognized its seniors: Caroline C., Faith D., Lauren G., and Lydia W. Accompanied by their families and coaches, the seniors walked through a tunnel formed by their teammates to pose for pictures. After the ceremony, the Vikes, along with the student section, indulged in Canes, bundt cakes, and fruit provided by the team’s parents.

The Vikings traveled to New Albany on Thursday, October 5, to take on the second-seeded Eagles. Within the first two minutes of playing time, the ball took an unlucky bounce resulting in a goal for the Eagles. With two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Lauren G. received a pass from Caroline C. on the corner, upping the score 1-1. After fending off New Albany for eight minutes in the third quarter, the Eagles broke through Academy’s defense, earning another goal. To secure the win, New Albany scored its third and final goal.

The Vikes return to action on Monday, October 9, at Thomas Worthington and again on Wednesday, October 11, at Worthington Kilbourne.
