The field hockey team traveled to Olentangy to compete against the Braves on Monday, September 11. Sophomore Bebe S. scored within the first 2 minutes of the first quarter. The Vikings came close to doubling the advantage with a corner opportunity but missed right of the goal. With eight minutes and 37 seconds left before half, senior captain Lauren G. expanded the lead with a goal from the top of the circle. In the third quarter’s last minute, the Braves snuck through the Viking’s defense and claimed a goal. With 11 minutes and 38 seconds left in the game, Alicia L. found a cross pass from Bebe S. before scoring, placing Academy at 3-1. Lauren G. shut down the competition with a fourth shot. Teammate Molly F. said, “I think the team did a really good job especially coming back after the tough loss to Watterson last week. It showed a lot of perseverance.”
On Thursday, September 14, the team traveled to CSG to take on the 1-4 Unicorns. Bradyn C. rebounded a shot from Carson K. within the game’s first 5 minutes before Lauren G. scored a second goal after receiving a pass off the corner from Katie N. After the half, Bebe scored her third back-to-back goal prior to Sophia S.’s possession, extending the lead to 6-0. With this aggression continuing into the fourth quarter, Caroline A. put up another point after rebounding Lauren G.’s shot, followed by another from Katie N., ending the team’s 8-0 shutout.
The girls face Olentangy Liberty at home on Tuesday, September 19 and then travels to Western Reserve on Friday, September 22 and Hudson on Saturday, September 23.
